Patch notes

Rent Due 0.3.4

Italian, and a long list of fixes pulled straight from your bug reports. Some of these have been broken since the first week and finally got tracked down.

Italian

The game is now playable in Italian, text and voice. Every menu, the laptop, the phone, the doorstep conversations, the whole of Uncle Sam's course, and both owners at the gate reading their asking prices out loud. That is five languages now, alongside English, Spanish, French and German.

Fixes

  • Fixed bug where house markers disappeared as soon as you walked up to a property, so you had to walk back to the middle of the road to see where to go next.
  • Fixed bug where a door you had just opened shut itself again a moment later, so the front door seemed to refuse you even though the doorway was clear.
  • Fixed bug where filing an inspection report could seal you inside the house with every door shut.
  • Fixed bug where a door stayed locked even when you were standing inside the home.
  • Fixed bug where an inspection asked you to document findings that were not in the room, because grime on the outside walls counted as evidence and got labelled with whatever room was nearest through the wall.
  • Fixed bug where the auction sold a different property than the one it had advertised for days.
  • Fixed bug where a loan could not be paid off with the money it lent you, because settling a note asked for the whole term's interest up front and left the button greyed out.
  • Fixed bug where a hired manager did nothing and could not be found anywhere until you assigned them homes by hand.
  • Fixed bug where a manager kept covering a home you had already sold, eating one of their slots.
  • Fixed bug where ultrawide monitors lost the bottom of a page, because every screen gave up vertical room as the monitor got wider.
  • Fixed bug where you could not leave the office, because nothing on screen told you which key walks you out.
  • Fixed the crash that was still hitting some small laptops after the DirectX 11 switch last update. Machines with little graphics memory now run textures at half size.

Every one of these came from the bug button or the Discord. Keep them coming.

Rent Due 0.3.3

A fixes patch. Doorways, the ranch furniture, a crash on smaller graphics cards, and a calmer wrecking rate.

Fixes

  • The game now runs on DirectX 11, which fixes a crash on lower-end and integrated cards.
  • Doorways stop catching you. The player is a touch narrower, so trailer and house doors no longer need a sprint to get through. The Bare Minimum front door, the one that snagged every body on the way in, now walks straight through.
  • Opening the upstairs bedroom door at the Big League Estate no longer switches off collision for the whole house.
  • House names no longer pile up in the middle of the screen after you travel to a neighborhood.
  • The camera ignores a sprint's sway too, not just a walk's, while still following a lean, a crouch and a jump.
  • On a day with both rent due and an inspection at the same house, you can collect from the tenant at the door before you knock for the walkthrough.

White Horse Ranch

  • Furniture across the ranch homes sits where it belongs again. Cabinets, lamps, fans and dressing that had drifted a metre from their walls are back in place.
  • Carpets no longer sink through the floor in any ranch home, tiled bathrooms included.
  • Hacienda Grande no longer offers a Garage set it does not have.
  • Fence gates sound like gates, not wooden doors.

Balance

  • Tenants wreck furniture about half as often, on the way out, during a party and day to day. A wrecked exit tops out at three rooms.
  • The top bedroom set is a Children's Room instead of an Owner's Suite.

Keep the reports coming. Every one of these came from the bug button.

Rent Due 0.3.2

A small one. The camera no longer shakes while you walk or run. It still moves with your head when you lean into a sprint, crouch, jump or land, so nothing else about the new movement changes.

Hotfix 0.3.1

A quick hotfix for something the White Horse Ranch Update broke on launch night.

  • Fixed custom character bodies stretching across the map in the districts. A part of your outfit was getting pinned to a point far away the moment you left your bedroom. It stays on you now.

Thanks to everyone who hit the bug button in the first ten minutes.

Update

The White Horse Ranch Update

Three big things in this one. A whole new map, a new way to move through the world, and the game in three new languages.

White Horse Ranch, a whole new map

A third neighborhood on the county map, out past Harrison. Nine retro ranch homes on big lots, from fixer-upper singles to two-storey estates behind their own fences.

  • Eight new listings, two of them at auction. Every one has its own photos, its own rooms to furnish, and its own tenant at the door.
  • New room sets to buy. A library, a pantry, a storage room, extra living rooms and bedrooms. The Long Porch sells its barn as a furniture upgrade, a whole second building and a real bump to what the place rents for.
  • Two estates never hit the open market. The Cattle Baron and the Land Grab are bought at the gate. Press E at the fence and the owner picks up in their own voice. Pay the asking price, make an offer from a sheet of five with real odds against their mood that day, or book a viewing and the gate stands open for you the whole next day. Lowball them and they hang up until tomorrow.
  • A furnished showpiece on White Horse Road you can walk through any time. It is not for sale.
  • Your employees know every ranch route and let themselves through the yard gates on the way in and out.
  • A new county map with the ranch drawn in, and crisp blip icons. The ranch blip is a horse.

New player movement

The whole first person feel is new. Walking, running, jumping, crouching and looking around now come from a proper character controller with full body animation.

  • You see your own body move the way you do, and the camera rides your head through all of it.
  • Sprint is a touch faster. Head bob is gentle by design.
  • Punches throw with the whole body.
  • The eviction notice rides in your right hand, held up where you can see it.
  • Crouch is on the keybinds now, next to everything else.

Spanish, French and German

Rent Due now plays in three new languages, and not just the menus.

  • The entire game. Every menu, the laptop, the HUD, the calendar, the phone, the tenants at the door and Uncle Sam's whole course.
  • Every voice line is recorded in each language. Sam, the twenty tenant voices, the phone calls, the doorstep talks, Earl and Ruth at the gate. The words light up in sync as they are spoken, same as English.
  • The first time you start the game it asks for your language. Change it any time under Settings, on the new Language tab.

Also

  • Winning an auction now says so, with a way straight to your new property.
  • A neighbor complaint in Harrison can be settled at the accused tenant's door again, even with another complaint open elsewhere.
  • Rent day and inspection day at the same house. Collect from the tenant at the door before you knock for the walkthrough.
  • Private sales never take market price cuts, and price cut notices skip homes you cannot act on yet.
  • The main menu's Discord button got its icon back.

The bug button in the pause menu sends your report straight to us with the log attached. If the ranch, the new movement or one of the new languages does something strange, that is the fastest way to tell us. Now go collect.

Rent Due v0.2.9

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed the crash on entering the office or a neighborhood, and the seconds long stutter that went with it. Both came from the game compiling shaders mid frame the first time it drew something new. Shaders now compile up front while you are in the menu, quietly finish in the background, and stay loaded.
  • Fixed a trash bag being able to spawn in a doorway and lock you in a room.
  • Fixed house name labels printing on top of each other when several of your homes are in view.
  • Fixed hiring at the office desk stamping HIRED and then quietly refusing. If your payroll is full or you already have a leasing agent, the button says so before you press it.
  • Job listings now always offer different roles, starting with the one you have fewest of. No more eight postings without a single rent collector.
  • Rent runs, evictions, inspections and case visits now bring you back to your room instead of back inside the laptop.

A note on the crash

Thank you to everyone who left error reporting on. The crash reports you sent were what let us pin this one down. If you still see a freeze or a crash after this update, a bug report from the pause menu is the fastest way to get it in front of us.

Rent Due v0.2.8, Bug Fix Update

Bug Fixes

  • The case file conversations have their voices back. Every line was recorded, but the game was asking for them by the wrong name, so the talks played silent.
  • You can knock on a tenant's door to question them now, even when you walked there yourself instead of pressing Question tenant on the computer.
  • Fixed inspection findings placed too high to photograph, like damage above a porch roof.

Also

  • Doorstep talks now show the tenant's record. Payer rating, renewals, missed payments, credit and any strikes, so you can decide a renewal or a raise on their history instead of guessing.
  • Crash reports now attach the crash dump properly, which helps us chase the last few hard crashes.

Rent Due v0.2.7, The Freeze Fix and Case Files

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed the freeze every couple of minutes. It was the Discord Rich Presence check running when Discord was closed. It runs in the background now.
  • Fixed falling through the map after filing an inspection.
  • Fixed getting locked inside a tenant's home while collecting rent.
  • Fixed the Adjust Rent screen for tenants who pay every 2 or 3 days. Prices there now match what they actually pay.
  • Fixed inspection findings that would not register no matter how many photos you took.
  • Fixed the Needs Doing chip saying leases are ending when they just started.
  • Fixed the While You Slept screen showing price cuts on homes you cannot buy yet.

New

  • Case files. Tenant complaints and offers at the door are now real errands with a choice. Go to the home, knock, and decide.
  • The side business. A neighbor reports vans at 2am at one of your other homes. Tell the tenant to stop or face eviction, take a cut of the action, or let it slide.
  • The grow op, from level 6. Same choice, bigger cut, harsher county.
  • The feud. Two of your tenants at war. Pick a side or buy peace.
  • The squatter. Someone moves into a vacant home of yours. Call the county, sign them on the spot, or keep them on cash.
  • The handyman. A good tenant fixes emergencies at their home for a rent break.
  • The referral. A loyal tenant sends family to one of your vacant listings.
  • EstateBank Transaction History. Every dollar in and out, with the date and what it was for.
  • EstateBank MAX button next to Borrow. Fills in the most your credit line allows.
  • You can tour any property now, no matter what is in your bank.
  • More inspections early on. Four a week at the start, settling to two a week later.
  • Rooftop diamonds now show the property name.

Balance

  • Applicant incomes are realistic now. Trailer applicants no longer make $600k a year.

v0.2.6Patch notes

Rent Due v0.2.6, Bug Fix Update

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed inspections giving strikes way too often. Normal inspections were counting as strikes, so tenants hit eviction grounds after just three visits. Now only truly filthy homes get a strike. Existing saves are fixed automatically, extra strikes and wrong eviction grounds are removed.
  • Fixed getting stuck after filing an inspection. The walk out could put you in a locked room or drop you through the map. You now always land outside on solid ground, and if there is no safe spot the doors stay open so you can walk out.
  • Fixed tenants repeating the same conversations. One time events like the dog moving in or painting the living room now only happen once per tenant.
  • Fixed a tenant thanking you for answering the phone when they never called.

Performance

[*]Freeze reports now include more detail to help us track down a rare stall some players still see. [/list]

v0.2.5Patch notes

Rent Due v0.2.5, Bug Fix Update

Bug Fixes

  • Auction homes now show the furniture they came with. Winning a lot you had walked past earlier could leave it looking empty while the furnishing tablet said every set was owned. The furniture was always yours, it just refused to appear until a reload.
  • Furniture wrecked by a bad tenant or a disaster now disappears from the home right away, instead of standing there looking fine until the next reload.
  • Furniture deliveries that finish while you are somewhere else now show up properly the next time you walk in.
  • Mess no longer spawns inside walls, and trash bags keep a clear step away from them so nothing sits half sunk in plaster.
  • Set dressing stays where it belongs. Books and stains no longer end up on roofs, awnings or the wrong side of a wall from the mess they belong to.
  • Findings near a home's basic furniture are labeled by where they are, so no more confusing "Always There" rooms on inspection reports.
  • Nothing to photograph ever spawns in a pool or hot tub again.
  • Being walked out after an inspection now always lands you on solid ground. Outside some raised trailers the walk out could drop you through the world.
  • Selling a home now takes it off your rent collector's route, freeing that slot for another property. Old saves are cleaned up automatically on load.

Performance

  • The shadow budget got one notch tighter, trimming the last of the shadow stutter as more of the world stays loaded.
  • Anonymous freeze reports carry one more detail so we can pin down a rare stall a few players still see. Thank you to everyone with reporting left on, it is how these get fixed.

Rent Due v0.2.4, Performance Fixes

A small performance patch.

  • Fixed stuttering caused by too many shadow casting lights sharing one budget across the county.
  • The office no longer runs a hidden lighting recalculation that could stutter or even crash the game.
  • Crashes now report themselves on the next launch, and bug reports carry the details we need to fix what you found. All anonymous, usernames stripped, with an opt out in Settings under Anonymous Error Reporting.

v0.2.3Patch notes

Rent Due v0.2.3, Bug Fixes

A follow up patch built almost entirely from your reports since the last update. Thank you for the fast reporting, nearly every line below came from one of you.

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed the frozen employee card. Checking on a hired worker, at the office or out on the street, locked the mouse so you could not click out of it. The mouse behaves now.
  • Spotless inspections file properly. A home with nothing to document signs itself off a moment after the camera comes up, instead of leaving you stuck with no way to finish.
  • Getting trapped after an inspection is fully fixed. Wherever the report catches you, in the garage, on the porch, anywhere under a roof, the tenant walks you out and the door shuts behind you.
  • Eviction notices come off the door once a new tenant moves in, instead of staying pinned forever. They also swing with the door now instead of floating in the air when it opens.
  • Rooftop job labels no longer float in the middle of your screen when their house is hidden behind trees or darkness. The words wait until the diamond they belong to is visible.
  • Hiring at the office desk clearly tells you when a hire is refused and why, instead of hiding the reason behind the panel. No money was ever taken on a refused hire.
  • The staff page shows when your next payroll slot unlocks, so the rank limit is stated instead of discovered the hard way.
  • The Controls tab no longer squeezes its own title and buttons when the keybind list runs long.

DOORSTEP UPGRADES

  • Serving an eviction notice to a tenant standing at their door now hands them the paper. They take it, read it twice, and go inside. Notices only get pinned when nobody is home.
  • A doorstep where rent is ready AND an eviction is due offers both at once. E collects the rent, and the new Secondary Interact key, H by default and rebindable in Settings, hands over the notice. Collect first and the notice reverts to the door pin, so the order is a real choice.
  • The eviction letter you sign on the laptop got a full animation pass. The sheet drops onto the desk, the letter composes itself line by line, the stamp twists in with a flash and the whole page flinches, and the signed letter lifts away as your trip to serve it begins.

Keep the reports coming. Go collect.

Rent Due v0.2.2, Bug Fixes

A small bug fix patch, mostly from your reports.

  • Inspection mess no longer spawns in unreachable places. No more evidence under floors, inside counters, on roofs, behind fences, or outside the property. Spawn spots across the county were reviewed and cleaned up by hand.
  • If an inspection report files while you are still inside the house, the tenant now walks you out instead of the door locking behind you.
  • Mouse look reconnects on its own after closing the laptop or any other screen, no click needed.
  • Automatic freeze reports got better at ignoring loading screens, so we can chase real stutters.

Keep the reports coming. Go collect.

v0.2.0Update

Rent Due v0.2.0, Home Inspections + Hire a Staff

Landlords, this is the biggest update Rent Due has ever gotten. Two whole systems land at once, the county gets involved, and the sun finally learns how to set. Here is the tour.

HIRE A STAFF

HireME is open on your laptop. Post a job, candidates ride the bus to your office, and you read their application across the desk and stamp it, the same way you screen a tenant.

Three jobs. Rent collectors walk your street on rent day and bring the money back. The leasing agent signs tenants for every listing you own, and even renews leases for the ones with a spotless record. Eviction agents serve the notice so you do not have to.

They are real people with real habits. You will see them get off the bus and work your district, they learn on the job and grow into bigger routes, and not all of them are honest. Who you hire, and who you trust, is up to you.

HOME INSPECTIONS

The county is watching now. Two inspections a week get booked across your rented homes, and the appointments land on your calendar.

Show up on the day, knock on the front door, and hear what the tenant has to say about it, out loud. Then your phone camera comes up, and what you find inside is yours to discover.

Document it, file the county report, and collect. Fines come straight out of the tenant's deposit, three strikes puts CAN EVICT on the paper, and tenants who know you show up keep the place nicer. Skip your appointments at your own risk.

THE SUN ACTUALLY SETS

  • Real nights. Sunset, dusk, a properly dark 1am sky, street lights and glowing windows, sunrise.
  • Rooftop markers now say their job under the gem. Inspection, Collect Rent, Evict, each in its own color.
  • Auction lots and level gated homes are honestly locked. A red padlock on the door, the reason on the sign.
  • Bus stops are real. Aim at one and press E to bring up the travel map.

THE EARLY GAME STOPS EATING ITS YOUNG

We watched new players buy two homes, go broke, and sit there. Fixed.

  • Trailer prices came down across the park, so your second and third buys land without a week of broke waiting.
  • Emergency phone calls now price off the home and your level. A pipe burst at level 1 runs about $50 instead of $575, with full price returning once you can actually afford a plumber.
  • The first portfolio goal asks for 2 properties instead of 3, so the ladder keeps moving with you.

TIME AND PACE

  • Below level 7 the clock keeps running while you use the laptop and menus, so the early game moves fast. At level 7 the world starts waiting for you, announced as a perk when you hit it. Flip Time Stops In Menus in Settings and your choice wins forever, in either direction.
  • Sleep starts at 12 hours for everyone, stretches to 14 at level 5 and 16 at level 9. Fast pace gets the full 16 from the start.

FIXED

  • Estate floors are solid. No more clipping through walls or dropping to the first floor.
  • Twisted feet on doorstep tenants are healed.
  • The laptop no longer gets stuck on your screen after a property visit or an errand brings you home.
  • A sneaky rent math bug is gone. The rental application was letting slow payers read as premium offers while quietly shorting your week. Offers now show how often they pay and are judged at that pace, payments cover the days they span, and the COUNTER button works on lowballers. Your leasing agent judges offers the same way.
  • Rent comes due at the hour you signed the lease, and the calendar says so.
  • A doorstep conversation stops time no matter what your settings say.
  • A tenant call answered during an errand finishes before the ride home instead of being cut off.
  • The tutorial victory music no longer stacks, the mouse can no longer vanish under a screen that needs clicking, and TAB in the office tells you where Furniture Upgrades lives.
  • Falling out of the world puts you back on your feet where you were.
  • Auction homes no longer show up with their furniture missing.
  • A frozen frame in a player build now reports itself home with enough detail for us to hunt it.

Thank you for the reports, the screenshots, the bug hunting and the ideas. The three strikes rule, the two home collector, and half the fix list came straight from you. Keep it coming, and go collect.

v0.1.6Patch notes

Rent Due v0.1.6, The Clock Update

The day is yours now. This patch reworks how time flows based on your reports, adds a notification history so nothing gets missed, and fixes a long list of bugs you sent in.

Time Rework

  • The clock only runs while you are actually in the world. Loading screens, the laptop, the travel map, doorstep conversations and popups no longer burn daylight. A loading screen used to eat 14 in game minutes. A tenant chat used to cost over an hour. Not anymore.
  • Days are longer: about 5 minutes on Normal, about 2 and a half on Fast.
  • A big portfolio's collection route finally fits inside a day, with time left to live your landlord life.
  • New setting: Time Stops In Menus, on by default. Turn it off if you want the day burning while you work. Loading screens always stop the clock either way.

Notifications

  • Notifications stay up longer, and the more there is to read the longer they hold.
  • New notification bell on the laptop taskbar with a count badge. Open it to read everything from the last ten minutes with day and time stamps, so nothing gets missed while you are out working.

New

  • Press SPACE to skip a line a tenant is speaking, on the doorstep and on the phone.
  • Rent collection keeps human hours. At midnight anyone still waiting walks inside and shuts the door, and the doorsteps fill back up at 6am.
  • The new game screens got a redesign, and Normal is now marked as the recommended pace.
  • Discord presence carries a Get on Steam button next to the Discord invite.

Fixed

  • Escape did not close the Settings screen for a lot of you. It turned out to depend on your frame rate: the faster your machine, the more often the key press was missed entirely. The same flaw broke rebinding keys and skipping the intro splash. All fixed.
  • Two second freeze when a tenant called you. The voice system was loading dozens of audio clips just to count how many exist. It now reads an index instead.
  • The calendar said "no rent due" on the current day while rent was sitting there waiting. Today now shows the amount ready to collect.
  • Phone calls could become unanswerable. The keys are printed clearly on every call screen now, and an answered call takes its cursor back if anything steals it.
  • Agreeing to a rent raise when a tenant's cousin moves in never told you it worked. It always applied, but nothing said so. Now it announces the new rate.
  • Prepay and pet deposit deals looked like they paid nothing. The collection summary now shows the full deal.
  • The Adjust Rent screen opened with its confirm button greyed out, which read as a broken screen.
  • The auction page could hide its own Start Auction button, especially on ultrawide monitors. That page scrolls now.
  • You could refurnish a home while a tenant was living in it, which quietly pushed up what they were worth mid lease.
  • The whole map looked blurry for some of you. The game was rationing texture detail regardless of your graphics card. It now scales to the card you actually have.
  • Big freeze opening the properties app, stutters while walking your neighborhoods, tenants greeting you mid argument, doorstep deals losing what was still owed, and Sam's course getting stuck on the collect rent lesson. All fixed.

Rent Due v0.1.5, Bank Rework + Fixes

A quick follow up to The County Update, focused on the bank and a handful of bugs you reported.

Bank Rework

  • The bank now lends against your equity: what you own MINUS what you owe. Buying property with borrowed money no longer inflates your own credit line.
  • Rental income only counts toward your credit line once a tenant has actually paid you at least once, and the bank counts a smaller window of it. Freshly signed leases prove nothing to the bank.
  • The bank warms up to a new landlord over time: one loan at a time until day 10, two until day 25, three after that. The credit line itself starts capped and grows as your business earns.
  • Nothing is taken away from existing saves: loans you already signed keep their terms, your limit is simply recalculated from what you have genuinely built.

Fixes

  • Fixed a double voice when demanding the full amount from a tenant who is short on rent. Conversations no longer talk over themselves, and tenants no longer re-greet you mid argument.
  • A doorstep "pay the rest later" deal could lose the owed remainder if you left without taking the check. The balance now always lands on their next payment, and the tenant's page shows what they still owe from the door until it is paid.
  • Sam's course could get stuck on the collect rent lesson if you collected at the tenant's door before using the office computer. Fixed, and saves already stuck will advance automatically.

v0.1.4Update

Rent Due v0.1.4, The County Update

This is the biggest update Rent Due has ever had. The world opens up, your tenants become real people with voices and opinions, and being a landlord finally means walking your own streets.

The County Opens Up

  • A real travel map: head out any door, pick your stop, ride the bus. Press M anywhere in a neighborhood to pull it back up (rebindable in Settings).
  • The neighborhoods have names now: Jackson Mobile Home Park and Harrison Estates, with every address rewritten to match. Proper bus stops in both.
  • Open roam: walk up to any home you own and it opens up automatically. Step out of the yard and it closes behind you. No more Visit button round trips just to check on a property.
  • Glowing diamonds over every home you own: green means rent is ready, blue means applicants are waiting. New setting to keep them visible at all times.

Walk Up Rent Collection

  • Tenants with rent ready already stand at their open doors. Walk over, press E, do the handoff, keep walking to the next one. The laptop Collect button stays as the guided option.
  • Rent keeps human hours: at midnight everyone still outside walks in and shuts the door, and the doorsteps fill back up at 6am.
  • The envelope got smarter: a late fee toggle next to Take the Check, with a tip showing exactly when the fee reaches you.

Tenants Are People Now

  • Over 30 tenant looks and 20 voices with accents from all over: British, Latin, French, Italian, Australian, Nigerian, Egyptian, Indian, Korean and more. A tenant keeps the same face, body and voice from application to doorstep.
  • Every tenant interaction is fully voiced and their lips move as they speak: doorstep conversations on both sides, rent day greetings, screening small talk, incoming calls.
  • Talks have teeth: demand money a broke tenant does not have and the conversation turns on you with harder choices. Eviction threats say the word and mean it.
  • The talk card shows the lease facts (rent, schedule, days left, missed payments) so every doorstep offer can be judged on the spot.
  • Desk negotiations at the office: counter an applicant's offer with the COUNTER stamp. One shot, take it or they walk. The line queues in arrival order, no duplicate applicants, and the file pulses when a background check is ready.
  • Raise and renewal notices now say when the new rate kicks in (their next payment).

Auctions

  • AuctionBay runs twice a week (days 1 and 4), each with its own lot.
  • Auctions are faster and actually winnable now: rooms open hot and tire out instead of outbidding you forever. Your funds show under the current bid, losing refunds your entry fee, and a losing streak eventually catches you a break.

The Bank, Redesigned

  • Borrow exactly what you need with a typed amount. Your credit line grows with your portfolio, credit standing shows on the balance card, repayment stays automatic and weekly.

Economy Pass

  • Slow payers hand over bigger payments, closing the gap to about 80 to 90 percent of a daily payer. Weekly income shown everywhere so schedules can be compared.
  • Fixed applicant incomes that could beat their own yearly income, daily rent skipping every second day, and the cousin rent exploit.

More New Stuff

  • Uncle Sam's course updated to match the new travel map: his lessons now route through it, and the map highlights each goal along the way.
  • Character creation: drag the mouse to spin your character in the preview, with a hint showing how. The save slot preview no longer clips into its chair.
  • RentRoll property pages: a Visit button right in the header (hidden while the home is rented) and a readout showing how furnishing lifts the going rate.
  • Main menu community column: join the Discord and read game news right from the menu. In-game bug reports now get a thank you screen with a Discord button, and yes, we read every single one.

Fixes and Polish

  • Fixed the massive lag spike when walking up to a property you own. Three separate causes, all gone. Walking your street is smooth now.
  • HUD level section redesigned (long rank names no longer get cut off), keybind hints redesigned, one unified loading screen with fresh tips.
  • Notifications pause during loading screens and resume after. Overnight news arrives one banner at a time instead of a pile.
  • The laptop opens straight to the desktop, no startup screen. TAB opens Furniture Upgrades with a single press at your property.
  • Fixed the office computer ignoring E with something in the way, a call button firing twice on double clicks, mailboxes blocking paths, long property names overflowing their cards, and the laptop getting stuck after trips.

Rent Due v0.1.3

Quick fix round based on your reports.

• If a call caught you while traveling, your cursor could get stuck and you couldn't hang up. Calls now work fully with the keyboard: Y or N to answer or decline, 1 to 3 for options, N or E to end the call.

• Some older saves had a hidden level 0 and couldn't buy any property at all. Those saves fix themselves when you load them.

• The office computer would sometimes ignore E if something was in the way. It listens now.

• Sending a bug report or suggestion now gets you a proper thank you and a button straight into our Discord, where the behind the scenes stuff happens.

Keep the reports coming, they're the reason these patches happen so fast. Esc, then REPORT A BUG. Big content update is almost here.

v0.1.2Patch notes

Rent Due v0.1.2: pick your pace

Two game modes

New saves now ask how fast life should move before you start:

  • NORMAL is the classic pace. A full day runs close to four minutes, sleep skips up to 8 hours, and there is room to breathe between rent days.
  • FAST is for landlords who never sit still. Two minute days, 12 hour sleep skips, rent and tenant calls coming in thick and fast.

The choice is per save, so you can keep a calm main save and a chaos one on the side. Existing saves continue on the Normal pace.

Fixed

  • Hanging up on tenant calls works again. Our last update accidentally broke the hang up button on calls, which left you stuck on the line if you didn't like any of the options. Sorry about that one. Every call now has a hang up button while the choices are on screen, and hanging up counts as politely declining.

More fixes and some bigger content are already in the works. Keep the reports coming: Esc in game, then REPORT A BUG.

v0.1.1Patch notes

Rent Due v0.1.1 is out: less sleeping, more landlording

We heard you loud and clear. The game asked you to sleep way too much, and that made it feel like a nap simulator instead of a landlord sim. This update reworks the core loop so the world moves while you do.

The game loop

  • Days now pass in real time while you play. A full day takes about two minutes, so rent, tenant calls, and calendar events happen while you are out working your properties.
  • Rent comes in faster. Tenants now pay every 1 to 3 days depending on their credit, so there is always money on the way.
  • Sleeping is now optional. Use the bed to skip ahead up to 12 hours when you want to, and the wake up is much quicker than before.

Tenant voices

  • Tenants now open their phone calls with a proper voiced intro, with the same word highlight as Uncle Sam's calls.
  • More voice variety when tenants greet you at the door.

Bug fixes from your reports

  • Fixed missing collision in the released build. Some props and ground pieces had no physics for players even though they worked fine on our end. This was the cause of several walk through and fall through reports.
  • Fixed spawning in the air when arriving at a property. You now start with your feet on the ground like a professional.
  • Fixed the freezes and stutters when traveling between the bedroom, office, and properties.
  • Fixed the prepay rent deal. Accepting three payments upfront now actually covers the next three rent cycles instead of charging you twice.
  • Fixed the wall of victory music when finishing Uncle Sam's course. One fanfare is plenty.
  • Fixed the rent to collect notification sticking around after you already collected everything.
  • Fixed tenant portraits not matching the person who answers the door.
  • Music volume now defaults to 10 percent for new players.

Keep the reports coming. Press Esc in game and hit REPORT A BUG, or drop by the Discord. This patch exists because you told us what was broken, and the next one will too.

Rent Due is OUT NOW in Early Access

Today is the day. Rent Due is officially out in Early Access. To the seven thousand of you who wishlisted this game before it ever launched: thank you. A solo developer could not ask for a better welcome to town. This game got built in the open, one update at a time, and today you finally get the keys. WHAT YOU ARE WALKING INTO Rent Due is a first person landlord sim where nothing runs itself. You buy the property, you furnish it room by room, you look every applicant in the eye before they get keys, and when rent comes due you walk over and knock. Evictions get posted by your own hand. The bank takes its cut every week whether you had a good week or not. FOR LAUNCH, THE WHOLE FIRST HOUR GOT REBUILT Your Uncle Sam now calls you on day one and stays on the line through your entire first rental, fully voiced, walking you from your first five grand trailer to your first collected cheque. He gives guided tours of the bank, the calendar, and your money buttons, he wires you cash for every lesson you pass, and when you graduate he sends you off with five thousand dollars and a neighborhood full of listings that grow as you level. Past the course, the town keeps moving on its own. Tenants call at the worst hours with burst pipes, storms, and a cousin who moved in without asking. They remember how you treat them, they speak up when you knock, and every one of them is a decision with a price on it. EARLY ACCESS, HONESTLY This is version 0.1.0 and the game will grow every week. Anonymous error reports come straight to my desk, the in game report button goes straight to my Discord, and fixes ship fast. If something breaks, tell me and there is a real chance it is patched the same day. JOIN THE TOWN The Discord is where the game gets built in public: patch notes, suggestions, bug reports, and a launch giveaway where five winners get a free copy and the Founding Tenant role. Come say hi: https://discord.gg/mrpuUHCXMV The rent is due. Go get it.

The Park Has a Discord Now

Hey landlords,

Rent Due is built by one person, and every patch so far has been shaped by players telling me what's broken, what's boring, and what would make the game better. That conversation deserves a proper home, so we now have an official Discord.

What you'll find inside:

Bug reports that actually get fixed. When you find something weird (a tenant in a wall, a cheque that won't cash), post it and there's a good chance the fix ships within days. Player reports have already driven most of the fixes in recent updates.

A vote on what comes next. I keep a running list of feature ideas. Discord decides which ones get built first.

Sneak peeks. New systems get shown in Discord before they're announced anywhere else. If you want to see updates while they're still half-built and slightly cursed, this is the place.

Tenant stories. Everyone has that one tenant. The one who threw a party at 4am, flooded the kitchen, then had the nerve to ask for a rent cut at the door. Bring your screenshots.

Patch pings. A ping the moment an update drops, with notes on everything that changed.

Join here: https://discord.gg/mrpuUHCXMV

Whether you're running one trailer or the whole park, come say hi. The door's open, and unlike most doors in this game, nobody's going to hand you an eviction notice on the way in.

Thanks for playing, Green
